KIM SIMONSSON (1974–) graduated from the University of Art and Design in 2000 and held his first solo exhibition already in 2003. He went on to display his work to a great deal in different parts of the world in museums and art galleries and at art fairs. His works have also been purchased by many museums in various countries.
Simonsson began his career with figurative works in ceramics and in recent years he has used coloured nap attached to ceramics for effect. The idiom of form of his works combines Japanese manga with the traditions of traditional visual art. His works have also been interpreted as deriving from traditional ornamental figurines of porcelain. Despite his use of fired ceramics, his works are now considered as representing the visual arts rather than ceramic art.
Kim Simonsson lives and works in Fiskars Village and is a member of the ONOMA Cooperative of Artisans, Designers and Artists in Fiskars.
